Add on-site parasite testing to your program!
“One of the most useful tools in a parasite control program is the fecal egg count—microscopic examination of fresh manure for parasite eggs. This simple test allows the veterinarian to determine which parasites are present and whether the infection is light, moderate, or heavy. This information is important in developing a deworming program for your horse or farm, and in monitoring the effectiveness of the program.” – AAEP
The Pro Kit
The Eggzamin Pro Kit has everything to establish a testing lab and is geared for conducting unlimited quantitative fecal exams. It offers a custom binocular microscope with two Eggzamin McMaster slides, and doubles all the necessary accessories for efficiency. If you ever encounter questionable material that you don’t recognize, you can email an image to our parasitologist for help with identification.Considering that each tests takes about 5 minutes, the kit pays for itself quickly.
“Doing fecal egg counts (FEC) is not difficult, but it requires some training to do correctly, and of course it is important to have good accurate FEC or improper treatment decisions will be made. There is no good source for learning how to do FEC other than finding a lab that does them and getting some hands-on practice. But if you are going to get started, the first thing is to get a decent microscope and the supplies needed. To make this easy, a new company has recently developed a FEC kit that contains a good quality inexpensive microscope that has a built-in camera, all the supplies that are needed and instructions. Even better, they also offer a consultation service where you can email pictures of what you see and a parasitologist will tell you what it is. The company is Eggzamin I have actually purchased a microscope from them for my own lab and have been very impressed with it.” Dr. Ray Kaplan, DVM, PhD.
